
Women's Tennis Host Maryland Invitational

College Park, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team will play host to eight teams this weekend at the Maryland Invitational. Syracuse, UMBC, Georgetown, Richmond, American, West Virginia, George Washington and Cornell will take part in the Invitational, which will be held at the Tennis Center in College Park. Match play will begin on Friday, September 24 and will conclude on Sunday the 26th.
Maryland was very successful in last year's Invitational as former Terrapin Emily Marker won her second consecutive flight A singles title. Sophomore Marianne Baker captured the flight B singles title, marking her first collegiate title. Marker and Baker continued their success as they combined to win the doubles title at the Invitational.
Coach Martin Novak is looking forward to continued success this upcoming season. "We have a very promising team, which boasts good experience and athleticism," said Novak. The Terps will also welcome three newcomers to the squad, Freshmen Tamar Huppes and Julia Graca and Junior Veronkia Subertova.
Junior Ramona But who is currently ranked 22nd will participate in the Cissy Leary Inviatational this weekend in Philadelphia. Marianne Baker will also compete in the tournament which begins Friday, September 24 and will conclude on Sunday, September 26.
