Five Terps Honored By Soccer Buzz

College Park, Md. - Maryland women's soccer had five players honored by Soccer Buzz for their outstanding play in 2004.

Junior Nikki Resnick were named to the All-Mid-Atlantic third team. Freshman Nataly Arias was named to the Freshman All-America third team, as well as the All-Freshman Mid-Atlantic team, along with teammate Kelly Rozumalski.

Mahar, who becomes the Terps first All-American since 1998, lead the Terps in goals (9), points (22) and game-winning goals (4), and tied for second in assists (4) - all career bests. A native of Medina, Ohio, Mahar started all 20 games for the Terps and was a first-team All-ACC selection, as well as a second team selection to the NSCAA/adidas All-Mid-Atlantic team.

Francis, a junior from Richboro, Pa., was one of the Terps most consistent performers throughout the 2004 season starting all 20 games, leading the team in assists (5) and finishing second in goals (6) and points (17). A second team All-ACC selection, Francis moved into the school's all-time top 10 lists in points, goals, assists and shots during the 2004 season.

Resnick, a sophomore from Boca Raton, Fla., played every minute in net for the Terps in 2004 was named to the All-ACC Tournament team. With seven shutouts in 2004, Resnick moved into third on the school's single season list. Among those seven shutouts was a 1-0 victory over No. 2 seed Penn State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Arias, a freshman from Alexandria, Va., was also an ACC All-Freshman selection and started all 20 games for the Terps. She finished the 2004 season third in points (8) and tied for second in assists (4). Arias' biggest moment came in the Terps' 1-1 tie with No. 14 Florida State when she fired a shot from 35 yards that beat the Seminoles keeper to tie the score.

Rozumalski, a freshman from Middleburgh, N.Y., was also named to the ACC All-Freshman team after tallying three goals. She started 18 of 19 games played and battled through injuries during the season. Rozumalski scored her first collegiate goal in a 5-2 win over South Carolina at the Virginia Soccer Classic. She then netted the Terps' first goal in a 2-1 upset of eventual NCAA runner-up UCLA at the Virginia Soccer Classic.
