The No.15 Maryland Gymnastics team finished fourth at a quad meet Saturday with a score of 191.550. No.3 Michigan dominated the meet, scoring a 196.025, No.19 Minnesota took second with a 193.925 and Ohio State edged out Maryland for third, scoring a 192.675.
The Terps were much stronger on vault this week, scoring a 48.700. Two Maryland freshman led the team. Lindsey Bonomo scored a 9.80 and Gretchen Kittelberger scored a 9.775. Their was a four-way tie on the event for first place as Michigan's Katie Lieberman and Jenny Deiley, as well as Minnesota's Carolyn Yernberg and Laura Johnson all finished first with a 9.875.
Uneven Bars proved to be a problem for the Terps, suffering several falls on the event. The team was coming off a great effort at the Maui Invitational, taking first place on the event. Senior Mandy Pascual led the squad, with a 9.750 and the team total was 47.100. Michigan's Elise Ray who was the 2004 National Champion on the event finished first with a 9.925.
Maryland also struggled on balance beam, scoring a 47.825. Junior Alex Gatch gave another consistant performance on beam, scoring a 9.725. Sophomore Angie Ferg improved her beam routine, scoring a 9.725. Ohio State's Elizabeth Meaney and Michigan's Lindsey Bruck tied for first place with a 9.850.
Junior Rachel Martinez finished third on floor exercise, scoring a 9.775 to take third place. Redshirt sophomore Ginny Scott finished fifth, scoring a 9.725. The team faced a deduction on the event, forcing them to count one of their lowest scores. Michigan's Jenny Deiley took first on the event with a 9.825. Michigan's Lindsey Bruck was first in the all-around competition, scoring a 39.125.
It was a difficult night for the No.15 Terps but they will look to get back to form this Saturday, Jan. 22nd. They will host The Towson Tigers in their first home meet of the season in the Comcast Center's Pavilion Gym at 3:00pm.
