The women's cross country team placed fourth overall at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational Saturday, finishing among some of the nation's best.

With a score of 226 points, Maryland finished ahead of eighth-ranked Villanova and one spot behind Tennessee, which currently stands at No. 15 in the latest FinishLynx poll. The Terps had a one-through-five split of 51 seconds in what head coach Dr. Michael Garrison called a, "landmark performance," for the program.

"We really laid it out there and it showed," Garrison said. "Everyone competed well for us. Lots of people were talking about Maryland by the end of the day."

Junior Laurel Jefferson led the way for the Terps, finishing 20th overall with a time of 21:08.70. Senior Cori Koch, who was the Terps' fastest runner at the first two meets of the season, came in 27th in 21:22.40. Seniors Katie Purcell and Shari Gorga finished 49th and 59th, respectively for Maryland.

Also for the Terps, Danielle Siebert came in 71st (21:59.70), Allison Carney finished 112th and freshman Kylynn McKinley placed 173rd. Competing in the women's open event, freshman Libby Babcock finished 23rd overall.

The Terps will look to carry the momentum from the Paul Short Invite into next weekend when they head to Hunt Valley, Md. for the Maryland Intercollegiates.
