The markedly young men's cross country team continued to mature and gain experience Saturday, finishing 25th at the Penn State Nationl Invitational in State College, Pa.

"This team is going through a lot of on-the-job training," said head coach Dr. Michael Garrison. "We just need to be patient and keep working hard. We need to translate our workouts into success on race day."

Freshman Tyler McCandless stood out again for the Terps, coming in 67th overall. He finished the 5.2 mile course in 26:34. McCandless, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Friday, has led Maryland at every competition this season, a remarkable feat for a freshman.

The next fastest Terp was junior Matt Sanders. The Pasadena, Md. native came in 129th place in 27:08. Freshmen Jake Travers and Josh Davis finished in 152nd and 165th, respectively. Senior Dan Ryan crossed in 197th (28:00), freshman Zach Martinez in 221st (28:32) and junior Pat Reaves in 229th (28:38).
