COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland men's soccer team, the third-ranked team in the country, will take on non-conference foe New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field. The Terps have won seven straight games and are unbeaten at home this season.

The Terrapins (12-3-0, 6-1-0 ACC) are coming off a pair of ACC wins last week, including a 3-0 shutout over then-No. 4 Virginia. The Terps also earned a 4-0 shutout on the road at Boston College.

NJIT comes into Wednesday's game with a 1-7-5 record. The Highlanders lost 2-0 in their last time out against Army.

Wednesday's meeting with NJIT will be the first between the two schools. It is only NJIT's second year at the Division I level.

Next Up: The Terrapins will continue non-conference action on Saturday with a showdown against No. 5 Indiana. The two-time defending national champions defeated the Terps last season at the College Cup, 3-2 in double overtime. A capacity crowd is expected for the Terp-Hoosier game on Saturday. Over 1,000 tickets have been pre-sold for the game and officials are expecting to threaten the Ludwig Field record of 6,143 (vs. UCLA in 2003). Prior to the game, Maryland's six seniors will be honored.

    Tough Slate
    • According to the most recent NSCAA poll, seven Maryland Terrapin opponents are ranked among the nation's top 25 (including this week's matchup with Indiana). Also, four Maryland opponents are currently ranked in the Top 10.
    • The Terps are also facing 10 teams that advanced to the 2004 NCAA Tournament, including fellow College Cup qualifiers Indiana and Duke.
    • Maryland is 7-1-0 against ranked opponents this season, including seven straight.

    Goalin Garey
    • After one of the strongest offensive seasons in Maryland history, forward Jason Garey has garnered national attention heading into his senior season. The Sports Illustrated On Campus Player of the Year set a school record for points in 2004 with 53. He netted 22 goals and had nine assists.
    • Garey has been named a preseason All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com and Soccer America. He is also among the 25 players named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List that was released August 24. Garey was a semifinalist for the award in 2004.
    • Garey scored his record-breaking 46th goal on Sept. 27 with his game-winner against William & Mary. He now has 54 career goals.
    • He became Maryland's all-time points leader on Oct. 7 vs. No. 8 Duke with a goal and an assist against the Blue Devils. Garey currently has 124 points in his Terrapin career.
    • Garey earned conference and national Player of the Week honors on Sept. 12 after scoring two goals against No. 5 Santa Clara and one goal against No. 15 Virginia Commonwealth.
    • He also earned national recognition on Oct. 3 as a member of CollegeSoccerNews.com Team of the Week after scoring a goal against William & Mary and a pair of scores against No. 14 Wake Forest.
    • Maryland is 11-0-0 this season when Garey scores a goal.
    • Garey has scored a goal in seven straight games with four of those scores being game-winners.

    The Week That Was
    • Maryland earned two important conference victories with a pair of shutouts over Virginia and Boston College.
    • Against the `Hoos, the Terps used an opportunistic score by Robbie Rogers to grab the lead and then pulled away with second half scores from Stephen King and Jason Garey for the win. Maurice Edu, A.J. Godbolt and Chris Lancos each had assists. The Terps defeated UVa for the third-straight time in the regular season. Defenders Kenney Bertz and Michael Dello-Russo combined to help limit UVa's prolific scoring tandem of Yannick Reyering and Adam Cristman. The two were not able to get any shots on goal.
    • In the win over Boston College, the Terrapins again were able to get a first half lead and then broke the game open in the second half for a 4-0 shutout of the Eagles. Garey scored twice for Maryland and converted his first PK as a Terrapin. Maurice Edu chipped in three points on a goal and an assist and Chris Lancos scored his second goal of the season.
    • Goalie Chris Seitz was between the pipes for both of Maryland's shutouts. He was only forced to make one save in the two games.
    • Maryland improved to 6-1-0 in the ACC -- the six wins being the most conference wins in school history.

    Quick Kicks
    • The Terps have outscored opponents 24-3 in their seven-game winning streak.
    • Maryland's Jason Garey has scored a goal in each of the Terps' last seven games.
    • The Terp defense has not allowed more than one goal in that span. It has only allowed more than one goal once this season (the second game of the season, Sept. 4 vs. UCLA). The defense has also helpd the opponents to under 10 shots in nine (of 15) games this season.
    • After an 1-3 start on the road, Maryland has won three straight away from Ludwig Field.

    Sensational Seniors
    • This year's outgoing senior class will likely be recognized as one of the most successful in school history. The group has won more than any class in school history and is the only one to lead Maryland to three College Cups in their time in College Park. Below are quick highlights of each of the seniors:
Kenney Bertz: Four-year starter on defense ... has made 43 consecutive starts ... last missed start was in Nov. 26, 2003 ... has five career goals and 15 career assists as a defender ... has helped the team to 45 shutouts (nearly half of all the games Maryland has played).

Jason Garey: Maryland's all-time leader in goals (54) and points (124) ... has made 54 consecutive starts dating back to 2003 ... team captain in 2005 ... Hermann Semifinalist in 2004, Watch List in 2005 ... first team All-ACC, third team NSCAA All-America and second team CoSIDA All-American in 2004.
Chris Lancos: Has started 79 of Maryland's 89 games since he arrived (90 percent) ... has helped the defense to 45 shutouts in his career ... registered seven career goals and 16 assists ... was a 2004 All-ACC Tournament selection after tying two tournament records -- assists in a game (3) and assists in a tournament (4).
Craig Salvati: Fifth-year goalie ... has 10 career starts ... four career shutouts ... has a career goals-against average of 0.67 ... Defensive MVP at this year's Maryland/adidas Classic.

    Fantastic Four Years
    • Maryland's 69 victories since 2002 are the most in a four-year span at Maryland. In that time Maryland's record is 69-17-3 -- a winning percentage of .800.
    • The success extends beyond victories as the Terrapins have advanced to the national semifinals and have played in the ACC Tournament finals in each of the past three seasons.

    NJIT At A Glance
    • NJIT enters Wednesday's game with a record of 1-7-5. This is the Highlanders' second year in Division I. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
    • NJIT's first D-I win came this season, defeating Manhattan 2-0. The Highlanders are winless in their last 10 games, but have managed four ties in that span.
    • Eddie Romero leads the team with five goals. Scott Rietze has the only game-winner in the program's history to go with one assist on the year.

    Home Sweet Home
    • The Terps have had remarkable success at Ludwig Field posting a 45-3-1 (.928) record in three plus seasons, including a perfect 13-0 mark in 2002 and 8-0-0 record this season.
    • That record also includes an 8-0-1 mark during the NCA A Tournament which has helped Maryland reach three straight College Cups. (The Terps advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4, after tying Creighton in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.)
    • Maryland won 23 straight games at home between 2002-03, the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history.
    • Maryland is 8-0-0 this season and is unbeaten in its last 14 games at Ludwig Field (dating back to last season.
    • For the first time since the Terps started playing at Ludwig Field in 1995, Maryland averaged over 2,000 fans per game during the 2004 season.
