Maryland Women's Tennis Inks Strong Recruiting Class

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's tennis team has signed three outstanding prospects to join the Terrapins in 2006 head coach Martin Novak announced on Monday. The Terps signed Eleanor Peters from George Washington Prep School in Washington, D.C. Rockville, Maryland native Maggie MacKeever from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, and Elyse Steiner who hails from Pittsburgh, Pa. Novak is excited about the new signees. "We will be losing four graduating seniors and we needed to secure a competitively accomplished freshman class," said Novak. "In Eleanor, Elyse and Maggie, we did just that. Their current skill level will continue to bring steady improvement in the future."

Peters was named the Washington Post's All-Metro player of the year for her exceptional play this past season. She was ranked number one nationally in the 16 and under age group, Peters was also ranked high as fourth nationally in the girls 18 and under division.

Mackeever boasts an impressive resume; she has won the Montgomery County championship four years in a row. She also won the Maryland state championship in 2003 and 2004. Mackeever holds a perfect 45-0 record at Winston Churchill and was also named to the Washington Post's All-Metro team three years in a row (2002-2004).

Steiner attended Indiana University High School in Bloomington, Ind., she is ranked 45th nationally in the 18 and under age group. Steiner also is ranked number one in the 18 and under age group in middle-states.

"They are all very ambitious and goal oriented. I am thrilled to welcome Eleanor, Elyse and Maggie to our team," added Novak.
