Results
The Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams are both in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Terrapin Cup Invitational.
The Connecticut women lead with 255 points followed by NC State (247), West Virginia (171), Richmond (144) and Maryland (132.5) round out the top five. On the men's side, NC State leads the pack with 342.5 points followed by West Virginia (263), Connecticut (256), West Chester (127.5) and Maryland(105) round out the top five.
Senior Inbal Levavi (Kibutz Givat Haim, Israel) started off the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200-IM (2:05.90). Senior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) finished in 17th in the 200-IM while sophomore Emily Smoak (Salisbury, Md.) swam to a 20th-place finish.
Freshman Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) finished second in the 50-free (23.97), while senior Barbara Sumrall (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished 15th and junior Kaleena Laputka (Shamong, N.J.) in 24th.
Sophomore Nicole Rose (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) captured second-place on the one-meter board with a score of 255.45 and freshman Jen Fink (Hanover, Pa.) finished sixth with 223.85 points.
On the men's side, sophomore Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) finished in third in the 200-IM (1:52.85). Freshman Matt Golebiewski (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) finished 13th in the 500-free followed by senior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.) in 18th place and Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) in 23rd.
Junior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) finished ninth in the 50-free (20.79) and Doyle came in 16th with a time of 21.82.
On the boards, sophomores Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) and Jason Eccleston (Reisterstown, Md.) finished sixth and seventh of the one-meter board with scores of 243.7 and 222.05 respectively.
