Maryland-Brown Postgame Notes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -

  • Maryland advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 win over Brown. It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools. With the win, the Terps improved to 16-4-1, while Brown ends its season with an 11-5-2 record.

  • Marc Burch's goal was the third of the season and the 10th of his career. It was also his second game-winner of the year (the other was against Virginia Tech).

  • Burch made his first start since Duke on Oct. 7.

  • The assist was A.J. Godbolt's 12th of the season - which ranks tied for fourth in a season at Maryland with Carlos Martin in 1961. It was also his 18th career assist.

  • Brown was the last Ivy League team alive in this year's NCAA Tournament. Dartmouth was eliminated by St. John's and Yale was defeated by Stony Brook.

  • Jason Garey's 12-game point streak came to a halt against Brown. The last time he did not register a goal or an assist was Sept. 25.

  • Chris Seitz picked up his first career NCAA Tournament win against the Bears. Seitz was forced to make an early save to prevent a deficit for the Terps. He finished with three saves.

  • David Glaudemans earned the start at left back - his first start since Oct. 14 against North Carolina. He played 87 minutes against the Bears.

  • Maryland is now 15-0-1 when scoring the game's first goal this season.

  • The Terps have won four straight one-goal games. Maryland is 4-2 in games decided by one goal (1-0 outcomes to NC State and Penn State).

  • Four Terps made their NCAA Tournament debut: Seitz, Kevin Tangney, Graham Zusi and A.J. Delagarza. Zusi logged 30 minutes, while Tangney subbed in to play the last 16 in the game.

  • The Terps and Red Storm will be meeting in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. In 2003, St. John's eliminated Maryland at the College Cup, but the Terps won last year's matchup 1-0. Maryland and St. John's also played in the 2004 regular season, with the Terrapins coming away with a 5-2 win.

  • St. John's still leads the all-time series between the two schools, 3-2. Two of those three Red Storm wins have come in the NCAA Tournament.

  • Sunday's game will mark the third straight game against St. John's that has been played in College Park.

  • The winner of Sunday's game will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Akron/West Virginia and the UConn/Stony Brook games were postponed due to weather, but the quarterfinal opponent will come out of that pool of four teams.
