Maryland returns home after a 6-day, 3-game trip to Hawaii for the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational. The Terps went 2-1 and finished fifth at the Maui Invite, which included 6 former national champions and 5 teams ranked in the Top 25. Starting with Nicholls State on Sunday, Maryland will play 8 of its next 9 games against non-conference teams before the heart of the ACC schedule begins Jan. 7 at Miami. The Terps open ACC play against conference newcomer Boston College on Dec. 11 at the Comcast Center...Maryland will play the next 9 games without leaving the Washington, D.C. area: 8 games at Comcast Center and the BB&T Classic at the MCI Center on Dec. 7.
Maryland vs. Nicholls State
The Terps have never faced Nicholls State in basketball. Head coach Gary Williams has also never coached against the Colonels. Maryland is 1-0 all-time against teams from the Southland Conference having defeated Lamar, 74-65, Dec. 29, 1988 at the Sun Bowl Tourney in El Paso.
Last Time Out
Maryland captured the fifth-place game at the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational by defeating Arkansas, 75-62. It was the 3rd game in 3 days for the Terps, who shot 61% in the second half to pull away for the victory. Ekene Ibekwe led four Terps in double figures with 16 points, while also adding 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. Chris McCray scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, and Travis Garrison came off the bench to score 10 second-half points and grab 7 boards.
Up Next
Maryland will host Minnesota on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Terps have never faced the Gophers in basketball, but are 3-3 in ACC/Big Ten Challenge games dating back to its inception in 1999-2000. The Gophers are 1-0 heading into games against UT-Chattanooga on Saturday and Gardner-Webb on Monday, but have lost the services of leading scorer Vincent Grier to a fractured finger.
