
Coleman Named ACC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's Marissa Coleman averaged an even 21 points per contest as the No. 9/8 Terrapin women's basketball squad rolled to two victories on the week, and was named the league's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced today.
Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) opened the week with a career-high 22 points in the Terrapins' 88-55 win over Monmouth on Wednesday. She was 8-for-10 from the field, including a 2-for-2 mark from beyond the 3-point arc, and also went 4-for-5 from the free throw line. Coleman narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds (four offensive) against the Hawks but blocked a career-best four shots in the victory.
Coleman continued her torrid week against Arizona on Sunday, pacing six Maryland players in double figures with 20 points in the Terps' 92-67 win. The rookie guard/forward was 8-for-11 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range as Maryland eclipsed 90 points for the fifth time in just nine games this season. Coleman grabbed six rebounds in the game, and again flirted with a double-double, racking up a career-best nine assists. She also had two more blocks and a steal in the contest.
For the week, Coleman averaged 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds and shot 76.2 percent from the field (16-for-21). Coleman was 6-for-7 from 3-point range (85.7 percent) and averaged 6.0 assists, 3.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game as Maryland improved to 8-1.
Coleman leads the Terps, who are the top-scoring team in the nation averaging 93.1 ppg, in scoring with 17. 4 ppg. Her .571 percentage from three-point range also ranks among the top 20 in the nation.
