  • The Maryland Terrapins defeated SMU, 4-1, in the national semifinals Friday night in Cary, N.C. The Terrapins improved to 18-4-2 on the year, while SMU ends the season at 14-6-3.

  • Maryland will play for its first national championship in soccer since 1968. The win snapped a six-game losing streak in the national semifinals.

  • The Terps improved to 8-2-2 at SAS Stadium in the last four years. The program also improved to 3-6 all-time in the national semifinals.

  • Graham Zusi's goal was his fifth of the season and the first NCAA Tournament goal of his career. It was his first score since Oct. 26 (vs. NJIT).

  • David Glaudemans' assist was the third of the season. It was his first since Oct. 11 (vs. Georgetown).

  • Jason Garey took four shots in the first half, which was the same amount as SMU's team.

  • Jason Garey's consecutive goals within a span of :15 seconds were an NCAA Tournament record - no player (or team) had ever scored back-to-back goals quicker.

  • Jason Garey's 22 goals match his total from last season. He now has 60 career goals and 140 points. The 22 goals also make Garey the NCAA's leader in that category. It was the first goal of the postseason.

  • A.J. Godbolt's 13 assists this year are the second-most in a single season at Maryland.

  • Maurice Edu earned his fifth assist on the year on Garey's second goal of the day. It was his first assist since Oct. 22 (Boston College).

  • Stephen King scored his 15th goal of the season on a penalty kick. The 15 goals are the fifth-most in school history. He is 3-3 on PK's this year.

  • The Terps set a school record of 65 goals with their four scores today. The previous record was 62 set last year.

  • The attendance for Friday's game was 8,645. The Terps were well represented bringing two bus loads of students and many more other fans around the stadium.

  • Prior to the start of the game, Jason Garey was named an NSCAA All-American (first team) and a Hermann Trophy finalist. The other two Hermann finalists are New Mexico's Jeff Rowland and Indiana's Brian Plotkin. The winner will be announced Jan. 6.
