Box Score

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Terrapin softball team fell to Missouri, 6-1, in the opening game of the Crimson Classic on the campus of Alabama Friday afternoon. The Terrapins, who opened their season against the Tigers, are 0-1 on the young season and will take on host and No. 6/8 Alabama in the second game of the day at the Alabama Softball Stadium.

Maryland took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning after freshman Jenny Belak, who made her first career start in a Terrapin uniform at center field, earned a lead-off walk and advanced to second base on a Nneka Cardoza sacrifice bunt. The next batter, Lindsay Klein, singled to center field to drive home Belak and give the Terps a 1-0 lead.

Missouri evened the score in the top of the third inning after Kathy Masterson tripled to left-center field and scored on an RBI single by Leanne Bowers.

The score stayed knotted until the fifth inning when Missouri's Micaela Minner hit a three-run home run to left field to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Terrapins threatened to gain ground after back-to-back two-out singles by Belak and Cardoza, but Tiger pitcher Jen Bruck worked her way out of the inning to preserve a 4-1 Missouri lead.

Missouri added two more runs in the top of the seventh when Leanne Bowers homered to left center.

The Terrapins could not capitalize on a Crystal Tweedy double in the bottom of the seventh, and Maryland fell by a final score of 6-1.

Jessica Aditays (0-1) pitched a full game for the Terps and struck out two while allowing eight hits.

The Terrapins return to action at the Crimson Classic when they take on Alabama at 2:30 p.m. at the Alabama Softball Stadium. Livestats are available at www.umterps.com and live audio can be heard at www.rolltide.com
