
Ott Lowers 200-IM Record Again, Finishes Third

ATLANTA - Freshman Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) broke the school record he set this morning while finishing third in the 200-yard individual medley at the ACC Championships. The Terps are in eighth place with 92 points after two days of competition. Defending champion Virginia is in first place (250), followed by Florida State (204) and North Carolina (180.5).
Ott clocked in at 1:48.12 in the finals, .79 seconds faster than his morning time which broke Maryland's 16-year-old record set by Mike Lambert. The time is an NCAA `B' cut.
Freshman Stefan Geisen (Germany) finished 13th in the 500-yard freestyle, posting season-best time of 4:27.87. Junior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.) and senior Brad Schertle (Baltimore, Md.) placed 19th and 20th, respectively, with times of 4:33.31 and 4:33.40.
Senior Mike Fried (Ambler, Pa.) took 17th in the 50-free (20.80), while sophomore Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) placed 19th in the 200-IM (1:53.52) and junior Andrew Foran (Atascadero, Calif.) came in 22nd in the 200-IM (1:55.36).
Freshman diver Jason Eccleston (Reisterstown, Md.) finished 19th on the one-meter board with a score of 244.15, while freshman Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) took 22nd (221.50).
The Terps' 200-free relay team of Doyle, Fried, sophomore Kevin Ford (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and senior Erik Weinberg (Phoenix, Md.) placed seventh with a time of 1:21.87.
The ACC Championships continue tomorrow, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Follow the meet with Livestats.
