ATLANTA - Freshman Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) broke his own school record in the 400-yard individual medley at the morning preliminaries of the ACC Championships. In all, 11 Terps will swim at tonight's finals session.

Ott originally set the 400-IM mark at the Terrapin Cup Invitational in November. His time of 3:53.16 is an NCAA `B' cut and places him third in tonight's finals. The 400-IM is the third record Ott has broken in two days, as he reset the 200-IM mark twice Thursday.

Senior Erik Weinberg (Phoenix, Md.) is the sixth seed in the 100-yard backstroke with his time of 49.67, and freshman Stefan Geisen (Germany) is the eighth seed in the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.16). They will compete for conference titles in their respective events at tonight's finals.

Junior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.) finished 10th in the 200-free prelims (1:39.50) and will swim in the consolation round. Senior Gergo Szekely (Szentes, Hungary) is the 12th seed in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.95) and will swim in the consolations, while seniors E.J. Amyot (Fairport, N.Y.) and Tim Potter (West Deptford, N.J.) and sophomore Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) will compete in the 100-breast bonus consols.

Other Terps competing in the bonus consols tonight include senior Chris Brandenberger (Stony Brook, N.Y.) in the 100-back, senior Mike Fried (Ambler, Pa.) in the 100-yard butterfly, and junior Andrew Foran (Atascadero, Calif.) in the 400-IM.

The Terps are currently in eighth place with 92 points. Defending champion Virginia is in the lead with 250 points, followed by Florida State (204) and North Carolina (180.5). The finals begin tonight at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The session will include the 400-yard medley relay, as well as the finals for the 400-IM, 100-fly, 200-free, 100-breast, 100-back and three-meter diving. Follow the meet with Livestats.
