Terps Struggle Against Michigan and South Carolina

Columbia, S.C. - The Maryland's women tennis fell to 0-4 over the weekend, as they lost two matches, falling to the Michigan Wolverines, 6-1, and 7-0 to the South Carolina Gamecocks. Match play took place at the University of South Carolina Indoor Facility.
On Saturday afternoon the Terps lost a few hard fought matches to the Wolverines as four of the six singles matches lasted three sets. Tamar Huppes recorded the only singles victory for Maryland defeating Allie Shafner, 6-4, 7-5. Ramona But won the first set against Michelle DaCosta 6-1, but fell in the next two, 6-4, 7-5. Marianne Baker also won her first set against Elizabeth Exon, 6-4, but lost the next two, 6-0, 6-4. Huppes combined with Jennifer Dent to defeat Exon and Nina Yaftali in doubles play, 9-7.
Maryland squared off against the Gamecocks on Sunday afternoon. The doubles combo of Baker and But scored the only victory for the Terps in doubles play as they defeated Chrisyn Lucas and Magda Wojdvlo in a close match 9-8(4). In singles competition the Gamecocks swept Maryland. The Terrapins will look to rebound this weekend as they will host two matches the weekend at the Tennis Center at College Park. Maryland hosts Old Dominion at 10am, and will face Georgetown at 6pm.
