Maryland Gymnastics Finishes Second at Quad Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland Gymnastics took second place Saturday in a quad meet, scoring 192.850. The Terps led Towson, Rutgers and Pittsburgh going into the final rotation, but were edged by Towson's strong performance on floor exercise.

Towson finished first, scoring a season-high 193.475. Rutgers took third place, totaling 192.700 and Pittsburgh rounded out the scoring with 191.225.

Rachel Martinez scored a season-high 9.850 on vault, finishing second overall. Towson's Christina Ghani scored a 9.875 to take first. Marisa St. Louis and Lindsey Bonomo tied for fourth place with 9.775. Rachel Colon who replaced Gretchen Kittelberger (injured) in the line-up added a 9.650. The Terps totaled 48.650 on the event.

Leah Brill paced Maryland on uneven bars, notching a 9.80 to finish tied for first with Towson's Juliya Kovaliova. Colon notched a 9.650 and Ginny Scott added a 9.625. Maryland scored 47.725 on uneven bars.

Maryland had a strong showing on beam, totaling 48.225. Alexandria Gatch finished first overall with a 9.775. Martinez scored a 9.75, to finish second. Colon added a 9.70 to take fourth place overall.

Martinez scored a season-high 9.90 on floor exercise to finish first overall. Scott added a 9.725 and has scored a 9.70 or higher on floor in five straight meets. Angie Ferg and Brill added a 9.575 to give the Terps 48.250 on floor exercise.

Martinez finished second in the all-around competition, notching 38.525.

Maryland returns home for its final regular season meet, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the Comcast Pavilion. The team will autograph posters immediately following the meet.
