COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Erik Weinberg (Phoenix, Md.) qualified for the 2005 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which will be held March 24-26 in Minneapolis, Minn. Weinberg, the lone Maryland representative, is the first Terp to qualify for the national meet since diver Kevin Burke in 1999.
Weinberg will compete in the 200-yard backstroke, in which he won the ACC title last month in Atlanta. In doing so, he also broke his own school record, as well as the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center mark, clocking in at 1:44.89. Weinberg was the only Terp to win an ACC title in 2005 and the first since Burke won the three-meter diving crown in 1999. The last swimmer to win a conference championship was Geoff Wilcox, who won the 50-free in 1994.
