
Pair Of Terrapins Earn All-ACC Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland juniors Nik Caner-Medley (Portland, Maine) and John Gilchrist (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned all-ACC accolades with the release of the 2005 all-conference teams on Monday. Caner-Medley, a first-time All-ACC honoree, garnered a third-team nod. Gilchrist is an honorable mention All-ACC selection.
Caner-Medley, the Terrapins' leading scorer, is sixth in the ACC with a 16.7 ppg scoring average. He has led the Terps in scoring 12 times on the season and has registered nine 20-plus scoring performances. He is ranked among ACC leaders in field goal percentage (ninth, .476), rebounding (17th, 5.9 rpg) and free throw shooting (ninth, 77 percent).
Caner-Medley has posted two double-doubles against ACC opponents: 15 points, 10 rebounds vs. NC State (Jan. 23) and 19 points, 11 rebounds at UVa (Feb. 19). His season and career-high 35 points vs. Temple (Jan. 15) ranks as the ACC's fourth-best individual performance of the season.
The Terp junior was named ESPN.com's National Player of the Week (Jan. 31) after averaging 22.0 ppg, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists in victories over No. 2 Duke and No. 22 Georgia Tech. He scored his 1,000th-career point against No. 2 North Carolina (Feb. 27).
Gilchrist, who earned third team honors a season ago, was a two-time ACC Player of the Week selection (Dec. 20 and Feb. 14) after leading the Terps to wins over No. 7/8 Duke and Virginia Tech and an early conference victory over Florida State. The Terps' point guard is third in the league in assists (5.6 per game) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). He is also among league leaders in scoring (18th, 14.2 ppg), rebounding (19th, 5.2 per game) and free throw percentage (12th, 74 percent).
Gilchrist, who scored his 1,000th-career point against No. 2 North Carolina (Feb. 27), has led the Terps in scoring 10 times this season, including 20 games of double-figure scoring and six games of 20 or more points.
Gilchrist has registered five double-doubles on the season: 16 points, 10 rebounds vs. Memphis (Nov. 26), 21 points, 13 rebounds vs. Florida State (Dec. 19), 19 points, 10 assists vs. Virginia Tech (Feb. 8), 19 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists vs. Duke (Feb. 12) and 12 points, 10 rebounds vs. Clemson (Feb. 22).
