April 12, 2005

Greensboro, N.C. - Ramona But was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Performer of the Week after leading the Terrapins past 12th-ranked Duke, 4-3 for the first since 1985.

Maryland gained an early 1-0 match advantage when But and doubles partner Masha Senic downed the Blue Devil duo of Lauren Archer and Clelia Deltour, 9-8 (8-3) to clinch the doubles point for the Terrapins. At the number one singles flight, the junior Timisoara, Romania upset Duke's Katie Blaszak, ranked 44th-nationally, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The win by the Terrapins snapped Duke's 24-match win streak over Maryland.

Against North Carolina, But teamed with Senic in doubles play to defeat the Tar Heels' Caitlin Collins and Tanja Markovic, 8-6 for the Terrapins lone doubles point on the afternoon.

But and the Terrapins are back in action with a road contest at Virginia on Wednesday before concluding the regular season at home with a pair of matches against NC State and Wake Forest on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
