
Eades Tops Terps at ACC Men's Golf

NEW LONDON, N.C. - John Eades fired an even-par 72 Sunday to lead University of Maryland finishers in the final round of the Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf championship hosted at the Old North State Club.
Eades rallied with a 2-under 34 on the back nine to complete his even-par day. His 54-hole total of 226 tied for 24th place in the individual field. Sophomore transfer Tully Coyle tied for 33rd with a three-round total of 228.
As a team, Maryland finished in ninth place at 915 after shooting a final-round 297, the Terrapins' best team round of the tournament.
Also for the Terps, Hunter Bendall closed with a 1-under 71 in posting Maryland's best round of the day and tying Coyle for Maryland's best 18 holes of the tournament. Bendall had a pair of birdies on the front nine en route to a 34, then birdied the final hole to complete his under-par round. Bendall tied for 42nd at 234 over the three days.
Tyler Witman closed with a 78 on Sunday to tie for 44th individually with a 236 total, while Bobby MacWhinnie's 76 on Sunday was his best of three rounds and put him in a tie for 47th at 238.
Duke rallied behind medalist Ryan Blaum for a final-round 282 as a team, edging Georgia Tech for the team title at 865. The Blue Devils and Yellow Jackets had started the day tied atop the leaderboard. Georgia Tech was four shots back, with NC State in third at 880.
Blaum shot a 5-under-par 67 to win medalist honors, finishing at 10-under 206. Chan Song of Georgia Tech was second, closing with a 68 to finish at 214 over 54 holes.
Maryland will play next in the Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
