The No. 37 Maryland women's tennis team fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament on Friday afternoon in Cary, N.C. With the loss the Terps fell to 11-11 on the season, but are still alive for a possible NCAA tournament berth.
Maryland seeded fifth in the tournament was looking to avenge a 7-0 defeat they suffered at North Carolina on April 9th. The Terps lost the doubles point to the Tar Heels by falling in two of the three doubles matches. Ramona But and Marianne Baker fell to Aniela Mojzis, 8-3. Caitlin Collins and Tanja Markovic defeated Julia Graca and Veronika Subertova, 8-0.
In singles action, Neda Mihneva fell to Sara Anundsen, 6-2, 6-1. Caitlin Collins topped Veronika Subertova, 6-4, 6-1. Jenna Long defeated Jennifer Dent, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the victory for the Tar Heels, who move on to face Georgia Tech the number one seed in the tournament.
