The Maryland women's tennis team fell to the Harvard Crimson, 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tennis Championships on Friday afternoon at the Robert M. Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.
The Terrapins lost the doubles point to the Crimson by falling in two of the three doubles matches. Ramona But and Marianne Baker recorded the doubles victory for Maryland as they defeated Celia Durkin and Melissa Anderson, 8-4. Susanna Lingman and Eva Wang topped Veronika Subertova and Brooke Rogers, 8-1. Neda Mihneva and Tamar Huppes fell to Courtney Bergman and Elisa O'Rian, 8-6, which clinched the doubles point for Harvard.
In singles play, Melissa Anderson defeated Veronika Subertova, 6-1, 6-3. Julia Graca was downed by Eva Wang, 6-1, 6-3. Celia Durkin defeated Jennifer Dent, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the first round victory for Harvard.
Maryland closed out the season with an 11-12 record, while Harvard improved to 18-6 and will face Tennessee in the second round of the tournament.
