Final Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 15 Florida State scored six runs in the first three innings of the game and never trailed, beating Maryland baseball by a score of 8-1 at Shipley Field on Saturday night. The Seminoles' 1-2-3 hitters went a combined 7-for-12 with four runs and five RBI to lead the Seminoles, and Maryland senior Will Frazier tied a school record with his 59th career double in the game. With the loss, the Terps fell to 22-29 on the season and 7-22 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Florida State improved to 40-14 and 14-9 in the ACC.

Will Frazier, Jason Von Behren and Elliot Singletary combined for all of Maryland's five hits, and Singletary scored the Terps' lone run in the game. With two doubles in the game, Frazier moved his career total to 59, tying a school record. Another double would tie a career-high for doubles in a season with 17 and give him sole possession of a third school record. Earlier this season, Frazier became the school's career leader in extra-base hits (now has 91) and total bases (388).

Von Behren went 2-for-4 in the game for his second multi-hit effort in the last three games. In his last seven games overall, Von Behren is hitting .421 (8-for-19) with six runs scored, three runs batted in and four walks. He has raised his batting average 28 points over that span (.202 to .230) and is hitting at his highest clip since March 18.

Chad Durakis collected his 11th RBI in the last 14 games, and Singletary had at least one hit and one run for the sixth consecutive game. Over those six games, Singletary is hitting .500 (14-for-28) with three home runs, three doubles, nine runs batted in and nine runs scored.

The Florida State offense flew out of the gates, scoring runs in the first, second and third innings on its way to a quick, 6-0 lead.

On just the second pitch of the game, Florida State center fielder Shane Robinson gave the Seminoles a 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run - his third of the season. After a Ryne Malone strikeout, Gibbs Chapman and Aaron Cheesman followed with back-to-back singles to leave runners on first and third base with one out. Chapman scored on the next pitch on a sacrifice bunt by first baseman Daniel Wardell, giving Florida State a 2-0 lead.

The Seminoles used five straight singles to score another three runs in the second inning. Shane Robinson, Ryne Malone and Gibbs Chapman each hit run-scoring singles through the right side of the infield to give Florida State a 5-0 lead.

After allowing a third-inning run, Bowen settled down to work scoreless fourth and fifth innings. He would leave after five innings after allowing 10 hits and six runs (five earned), to go along with four strikeouts and three walks.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Terps got on the board for the first time in the game on an RBI groundout by Chad Durakis. Elliot Singletary and Will Frazier both walked to lead off the inning, and Singletary scored from third on Durakis' groundball to third base.

Brett Jones came on to throw scoreless sixth and seventh innings, but Florida State added two more runs in the top of the ninth to go up 8-1, the eventual final score.

The teams will meet one last time on Sunday at 1 p.m. - the Terps' final Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season. Senior right-hander Chris Clem (2-6, 5.90 ERA) is expected to face Florida State's Mark Sauls (5-1, 3.21 ERA) on Senior Day. Ten Terrapins, including Clem, will be honored with framed jerseys before the game, with the ceremony beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.
