The Maryland women's tennis team continued play at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Terps dominated doubles action as three doubles teams advanced to the finals of their respective brackets. The tournament will conclude tomorrow morning at the Tennis Center at College Park.
Junior Brooke Rogers advanced to the finals of the Flight D bracket. Rogers defeated teammate Masha Senic, 6-4, 6-4. She will take on Daysi Espinal of LSU in the final tomorrow morning. Espinal topped Juliana Naso, 7-6(3), 6-1.
In the Flight A semifinals, Ramona But fell to Ekaterina Burdull in a tough three set battle. But won the first set, 7-6, but Burdull rebounded to take the next two sets, 6-4, 6-4. Marianne Baker advanced to the backdraw final of the Flight A bracket. Baker topped Janet Kim of Yale, 6-4, 6-3.
Veronika Subertova dropped her Flight B semifinal match to Marina Chiarelli of LSU, 6-4, 7-5. Neda Mihneva moved on to the backdraw final as she bested Aimee Kim of Yale, 7-5, 6-0. In the Flight C bracket, Julia Graca lost to Olivia Nix of Yale, 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles action, Ramona But and Marianne Baker topped Olivia Nix and Rashmee Patil of Yale, 8-3. But and Baker will meet Daniela Bercek and Jessi Robinson of Duke for the Flight A doubles title. Neda Mihneva and Julia Graca defeated Raynie Thesis and Natalia Prinz of West Virginia, 9-7. They will face Marina Chiarelli and Mykala Hedberg of LSU, for the Flight B doubles title.
In the Flight C bracket, Juliana Naso and Brooke Rogers advanced to the finals by defeating Ashley Constantine and Catherine Koontz of West Virginia, 8-6. Naso and Rogers will meet Aleksandra Cekic and Marjolein Van de Ven of Washington State tomorrow morning.
The final day of the Maryland Invitational will begin tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park.
