COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland softball team ended its fall season with a three-game sweep over Georgetown, Delaware State and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County this weekend in the Maryland Fall Invitational at the Terrapin Softball Complex. The Terps conclude the fall season 7-3 in tournament play.
"We're very happy with how we performed this weekend," head coach Laura Watten said. "We've worked hard to gel as a team with a lot of new players - developing the camaraderie and commitment it takes to win. I think we accomplished that."
Amber Jackson and Jennifer Welborn, who combined for five home runs, highlighted the offense which tallied 42 hits in three games. The Terps also executed two squeeze plays in the Fall Invitational.
Maryland notched 10 hits in the opening game against UMBC en route to the 5-4 win, followed by a 12-0 victory over Georgetown. The Terps posted 15 hits against the Hoyas.
The Terps had a come-from-behind win over the Hornets in the evening matchup, overcoming a 1-2, seventh-inning deficit to Delaware State. Sophomore Lindsey Ubrun's single sparked a surge for the Terrapins, as the team recorded 12 hits alone in the seventh inning for the 14-2 victory against Delaware State.
