
Q & A with Senior Tim Shepard

Senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Maryland) will graduate from the University of Maryland in the spring of 2007. Shepard won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:03.87) and was part of the first-place 400 medley relay team at the Terrapin Cup in 2004. He had his first collegiate win against Virginia in the 200 breast (2:12.18) during his sophomore year. Last season, Shepard won the 100 breast against NC State (58.74). At the 2006 ACC Championships, Shepard finished 17th in the 100 breast (57.63), and 16th in the 200 breast (2:06.15). Going into his final year as a Terp, Shepard answers questions about his time at Maryland, future plans and what his role is on the team this season.
Question: What has been your greatest memory from your time at Maryland?
Shepard: Winning the Terrapin Cup Invitational my sophomore year [in the 200-yard breaststroke], simultaneously proving people wrong.
Q: Do you have plans for next year?
Shepard: I will have a full time audit position at Ernst and Young in Baltimore.
Q: Who is your greatest role model?
Shepard: Martin Luther King.
Q: What is something you do before every meet?
Shepard: I eat a Snickers Marathon Bar.
Q: What is something interesting about yourself that most people don't know?
Shepard: I fell into a fire pit when I was six years old.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
Shepard: Vince Young.
Q: What would you say is your role on the team this season as a senior?
Shepard: I feel that as a senior my responsibility is to guide those who are new to the team through the year and make sure that they are setting themselves up for greatness at ACCs and NCAAs.
Q: What are your goals for the season?
Shepard: I hope to score points in both breaststroke events this season at ACCs.
Q: What is been your favorite class you have taken at Maryland?
Shepard: Fraud Examination.
Q: What is the best thing about being a student athlete in college?
Shepard: You save money and you learn to budget your time.
