Q & A with Freshman Annie Broome

Freshman Annie Broome comes to Maryland this season from Knoxville, Tennessee. Before Maryland, she was the 2005 and 2006 Tennessee High School State Champion in the 100-yard butterfly. She is also the Tennessee state record holder in the 100 fly and the 200 medley relay. She participated in the National Championships from 2003-2006 and has been a Senior National Qualifier in the 100 fly and the 200 fly. Broome answers questions about the upcoming season, her thoughts on Maryland so far and her personal interests.

Question: What is your favorite thing about Maryland so far?

Annie Broome: My roommates and naptime.

Q: What do you miss most about/from home?

Broome: Driving my car, my best friend, my boyfriend, and my family.

Q: What is the biggest difference about Maryland, from your hometown?

Broome: Knoxville is surrounded by the mountains and crazy about the Vols. Its a weird city that only if you live there can you really understand it and love it. Knoxville is a big family that we like to call Big Orange Country.

Q: What is something you do before every meet?

Broome: Make sure my toenails are painted. It bothers me when I am up on the blocks and they are all chipped.

Q: What is something interesting about yourself that most people don't know?

Broome: I don't like chocolate

Q: Have you ever played any other sports?

Broome: I played basketball and soccer, and I danced as well.

Q: What is your favorite TV show, movie, food, band, song?

Broome: My favorite TV show is The OC. I love the movie The Notebook. My favorite food is McAlister's sugar cookies. My favorite band is the David Crowder Band and my favorite song by them is "A Beautiful Collision".

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

Broome: Making arts and crafts. I love to paint and make picture collages.

Q: What are your goals for the season?

Broome: To make my NCAA A-cut in the 200 fly and bring the swim team closer together as a team.

Q: Give me three words to describe yourself.

Broome: Creative, dedicated, happy.

Q: What has been your greatest athletic thrill?

Broome: Going my best time in 3 years in the 200 fly long course and getting my Olympic Trial cut.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about this year?

Broome: Working hard and swimming fast as a team.

Q: What made you choose to come to Maryland?

Broome: Dave Durden, the campus, and the team.
