
Durden Scheduled to Speak in Ohio

This Friday, October 6, Mayland head swimming coach, Dave Durden will travel to Ohio to hold a seminar for an Ohio swim club and an Ohio high school swim team. Speaking along with Durden will be the head coach of the swimming and diving program at the University of Southern California, Dave Salo.
In his lecture, Durden will discuss many of the strategies he implements in training his athletes. He will talk about the dry land and in water programs that Maryland is using to prepare for the season. The focus of the lecture will be to explain the training and preparation necessary to develop Olympic level swimmers. Durden will discuss the importance of athlete training, technical advancements in swimming, and the importance of coordination and gaining strength
This past July, Durden lectured in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the United States' Olympic Swimming Headquarters. He spoke to the China Sports Bureau, which is a collection of the top Sports Scientists in China. Among the group were organizers for the 2008 Olympic Games in Bejing.
Last season, two former Olympians (Krisztina Kovacs and Yelena Skalinskaya) swam for the Terps. In addition, senior Danny Gray, senior Tony Miller, and former Maryland swimmer, Liz Lavell recently competed at the World Championship Trials this past August.
Concerning the lecture, Durden says, "I am excited to discuss the environment we are creating here at Maryland on a daily basis in developing our athletes in this sport at the highest of levels."
Durden will return to Maryland following the seminar to coach the Terps in their home Terrapin Time Trial Meet this Saturday, October 7 at 10:00am.
