PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Maryland wrestling team went 2-1 for the second-straight week in a quad meet at the John A. Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel on November 11. The Terps beat James Madison and Drexel but lost to Bucknell in their first dual of the day. Junior Andrew Schlaffer was perfect on the day, winning all three of his matches this afternoon.
Schlaffer won two of his matches by major decision and beat Greg Jensen of Drexel with a technical fall 4:20 into the match. Junior Charlie Pinto won both of the matches he was in and earned a 14-2 major decision against James Theirren of the Dragons. Seniors Jerry Afari and Jason Kiessling, redshirt freshman Hudson Taylor, and freshman Mike Letts all won a pair of matches this afternoon.
Bucknell took the first match of the day against Maryland with a 27-14 win. The Terrapins went up 10-3 early in the dual with James Knox and Pinto earning a decision and Schlaffer getting a major decision. Michael Powers turned the momentum with a fall at 157 and the Bison earned two more falls at 197 and 285 to seal the win.
Maryland then took on James Madison and dominated them, 35-3. Schlaffer and Kiessling won by major decision, Letts won by technical fall and Price earned a pin at heavyweight against the Dukes. JMU only mustered points at 133 with a decision.
In the Terrapins' 22-12 win against Drexel, the Dragons won the first match at 125 by decision but then freshman Jon Kohler and Pinto won by major decision and Schlaffer won by technical fall to give the Terps a lead it would not give up.
Maryland, which is now 4-2 in dual competition, travels to Ithaca, N.Y. on November 18 to compete in the Body Bar Systems Invitational hosted by Cornell.
