COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Maryland scored 18 successive points in the first half and cruised to its third straight lopsided victory, 93-54 over Florida A&M on Sunday night.
Mike Jones had 16 points and a career-high nine rebounds for the unbeaten Terrapins, who have won their three games by an average of 28 points. Maryland next faces St. John's on Thursday night in the semifinals of the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic.
Freshman Greivis Vasquez had 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Terrapins, and D.J. Strawberry contributed 12 points and six assists.
Rome Sanders scored 12 points for Florida A&M (0-1), now 0-17 against Atlantic Coast Conference foes. The Rattlers shot 36 percent from the field, went 10-for-18 at the line and committed 23 turnovers.
Maryland, which had never before faced Florida A&M, improved to 30-1 against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The Terrapins never trailed. It was 7-6 before Maryland peeled off 18 unanswered points to turn the game into a rout. Five different players contributed to the run, including Vasquez, who finished it off with a layup and a 3-pointer.
After Darius Glover interrupted the Maryland surge with a free throw, Vasquez hit a jumper and freshman Eric Hayes added a 3-pointer to make it 30-7.
Florida A&M closed to 44-22 at the half and trailed 50-28 with 16 minutes left before a tip-in by Strawberry ignited a 13-6 spree that put the Terps up 63-34.
