Maryland is in Eighth Place After the Second Day of Terp Cup

    The Maryland men's swimming and diving team is currently in eighth place after the conclusion to the second day of the Terrapin Cup Invitational. West Virginia is in the lead on the men's side. Tonight's session included the 200-yard medley relay and 800 freestyle relay in addition to finals in the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

    The night opened with the 200 medley relay. The Maryland team of sophomore Dong Kim (Bucks Co., Pa.), sophomore Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.), sophomore Andrew Weinert (Allentown, Pa.), and senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) notched a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:33.75. Later, in the 800 free relay, Maryland was 17th with a team of freshman Aleksandar Damjanic (Zagreb, Croatia), freshman Chris Rouchard (Westlake, Ohio), junior Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) and freshman Kevin Reardon (Voorhees, N.J.) swimming a 7:08.42.

    Senior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) swam the 400 IM in the finals session. He notched a season-high time of 4:10.74 taking 18th place.

    Two Maryland swimmers advanced to the finals in the 100 fly. Weinert was the top finisher for the Terps with a season high (51.02) good for 17th place. Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) placed 21st in the event (51.96). Thomasson also swam the 100 back in the finals session, placing 18th (53.49).

    In the 100 breast Cullen notched a season-high time of 58.68 coming in 18th, followed by senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) who swam a 59.54 placing 21st in the event.

    Tomorrow marks the last day of this year's Terrapin Cup Invitational. Preliminary competition will begin at 10:00 am in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and men's 3 meter diving. Following these events will be preliminaries for the 1650 free, starting at 2:00 pm. Finals for these events along with the 400 free relay will begin at 6:30 pm.
