Maryland Sends Swimmers to Finals on Day Three of Terp Cup

    This morning's prelims included the 200-yard backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and men's 3 meter diving. The 1650 freestyle will begin at 2:00 pm.

    On the men's side, the Terps opened the morning session with the 200 back, advancing junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) to the finals after a 21st-place finish (1:57.72).

    Senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) led Maryland in the 100 free, earning a spot in tonight's finals after a 12th-place swim (46.52).

    In the 200 breast, senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) was the top finisher for the Terps, in 19th place (2:10.70). Senior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) earned an alternate spot in the 200 breast finals with a 25th-place finish (2:13.10) in the prelims.

    Maryland advanced three swimmers to finals in the 200 fly. Freshman Aleksandar Damjanic (Zagreb, Croatia) and Thomasson tied for 22nd (1:58.49) leading the Terps in the event. Junior Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) will also swim this evening, after placing 24th (1:58.55) in the prelims for the event.

    In 3 meter diving, junior Derek Hock (Alliquipa, Pa.) placed fourth (234.85) and advanced to finals.

    Tonight's finals will begin following the conclusion of the 1650 free. The last session of the Terp Cup is set to begin at 6:30 pm and will also include the 400 free relay.
