
Maryland Sends Swimmers to Finals on Day Three of Terp Cup

This morning's prelims included the 200-yard backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and men's 3 meter diving. The 1650 freestyle will begin at 2:00 pm.
On the women's side, the Terps opened the morning session with the 200 back, advancing two women into finals. Freshman Andrea Lehner (Orchard Park, N.Y.) led the meet with a first-place finish and NCAA B cut time (2:00.39). Freshman Jackie Davidson will join Lehner tonight after a ninth-place swim (2:04.53). Junior Kirsten Jones (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) earned an alternate position placing 25th (2:06.65).
The Terps also saw success in the 100 free. Sophomore Yelena Skalinskaya (Almaty, Kazakhstan) advanced into the finals session after placing 14th (52.05) along with sophomore Maya Finkler who placed 19th (52.28). Davidson will be an alternate for the event, placing 25th (57.71) in the prelim session.
Junior Katarina Csomova (Komarno, Slovakia) will swim the 200 breast this evening. She swam to an 18th-place finish (2:23.98) in the prelims.
Maryland advanced four women to finals in the 100 fly. Freshman Jen Vogel (Hingham, Mass.) led the way placing third (2:03.99) followed by freshman Nina Rossi (Princeton, N.J.) in fifth (2:03.99), freshman Annie Broome (Knoxville, Tenn.) in sixth (2:04.78), and freshman Patty DeScenza (Naperville, Ill.) in ninth (2:06.02).
Tonight's finals will begin following the conclusion of the 1650 free. The last session of the Terp Cup is set to begin at 6:30 pm and will also include the 400 free relay.
