
Maryland Hosts Western Kentucky on Friday

Maryland men's swimming and diving will return to action tomorrow afternoon in a home meet against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The meet will start at 4:00 pm in the Eppley Recreation Center. On Saturday, December 2, both the men's and women's teams will travel to take on the West Virginia University Mountaineers at 2:00 pm.
The Terps currently hold a 1-2 record overall and 0-2 conference record going into this weekend's events. The men's team is coming off of a seventh place finish in the three-day Terrapin Cup Invitational held November 16-18.
Friday will mark the second regular second meet for the Western Kentucky men's team. The Hilltoppers won their first meet of the season against Miami (Ohio) and are coming off of a first-place finish in the WKU Invitational against the University of Missouri Rolla and the University of Evansville.
Last time for the Terps:
-Maryland finished in seventh place accumulating 149 points. West Virginia was victorious with 860 points, followed by NC State (721 points) in second and University of Connecticut in third (641 points).
-Senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) came in fifth place in the 50-yard freestyle (20.66) and led the Terps in the 100 free placing 9th (46.01).
- In the 1650 free, freshman Chris Rouchard (Westlake, Ohio) placed 11th in the event with time of 16:21.64 and junior Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) finished 14th (16:27.07).
- Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) swam the 100 backstroke, placing 18th (53.49). In the 200 backstroke, Thomasson swam to 18th place with a 1:56.22.
-Sophomore Andrew Weinert (Allentown, Pa.) was the top finisher for the Terps in the 100 butterfly (51.02) in 17th place. In the 200 fly, Thomasson swam to 20th place (1:57.79).
-Sophomore Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) notched a season-high time of 58.68 in the 100 breaststroke coming in 18th, followed by senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) who swam a 59.54 placing 21st in the event. Shepard placed 17th in finals for the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.84.
-In the 200 individual medley, Senior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) placed 20th (1:56.85) and Shepard came in 22nd (1:57.33). Miller also swam the 400 IM notching a season-high time of 4:10.74 taking 18th place.
-The Terps notched a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with the relay team of sophomore Dong Kim (Buck Co., Pa.), Gray, Weinert and sophomore Jake DiPiazza (Silver Spring, Md.) swimming a 1:24.26.
-In the 400 free relay Kim, Gray, Weinert, and freshman Aleksandar Damjanic (Zagreb, Croatia) placed sixth (3:07.27).
-Kim, Cullen, Weinert and Gray notched a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:33.75 in the 200 medley relay.
-Junior Derek Hock (Aliquipa, Pa.) advanced to finals in men's 3 meter diving taking sixth with 227.65 points in tonight's session.
