The Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving team is set to travel to Miami, Florida for training and a relay meet against Florida International, Iowa and Old Dominion. The Golden Panther Invitational, hosted by Florida International, will take place on January 6, 2007 at 11:00 am to close out the week of training for the Terrapins.
The competition will include the following events: 400-yard medley relay, 500 freestyle relay (with competitors swimming these yards respectively: 50, 100, 150, 200), 200 butterfly relay, 200 breaststroke relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 backstroke relay, 400 individual medley relay (with each competitor swimming 100 IM) and 200 freestyle relay.
Concerning the training and relay meet in Miami, head coach Dave Durden explains, "Our Holiday Training environment allows us to be off campus for a week to solely focus on team training at a time of the season that is so critical to fast swimming in February and March. This opportunity also provides a great framework in developing the notion of `team' in a sport that is based on individual performances. We look forward to what this opportunity provides our athletes as well as establishing our program for the future."
