Nothing can prepare you for what recruiting is like. It is exciting, stressful, and fun all at the same time. When I began the process, I knew nothing about the University of Maryland. My family and I visited several colleges and Maryland immediately stood out. The more I learned about the university, the more I liked it. The way Duke and Brett personally showed me around campus really made me feel welcome. My younger sisters especially enjoyed finding all of the turtle statues around campus.
What impressed me the most was how Duke was so proud of the girls' academic achievements as well as their gymnastic ones. He mentioned that some of the girls had been class valedictorians and that the team GPA was consistently among the highest of all the athletic teams. The balance between academic and gymnastics excellence was just what I was looking for.
Another factor that was important to me was the closeness of the team. I was very impressed with how supportive they were of each other, and the way they respected their coaches. I also really liked the beautiful campus and the location with all that the Washington, DC and Baltimore area have to offer.
When I signed my NLI, I felt excited and proud to be able to call myself a Terp. The support and encouragement of my family, coaches, and club made the moment even more special. I look forward to joining my fellow recruits next fall and being part of such an exceptional team ... Go Terps!
