Terps Slam Richmond, 5-2

RICHMOND, Va. - Maryland advanced their record, 4-2, with a win today against the Richmond Spiders. Maryland started the match by winning the doubles point and four out of the six singles. The Terps were ranked 31st before today's win.

Ramona But and Marianne Baker started the team's momentum, winning their doubles match, 8-5. But and Baker are 6-0 this season in their doubles matches and are ranked 16th in the nation. While Maryland fell in the second match, Michal Amir and Jennifer Dent secured the doubles point easily, 8-2.

But and Baker also won their singles sets for the Terps. Adding to Maryland's three point lead was Veronika Subertova in the third slot singles. Subertova defeated Robin Carter, 6-2, 6-2. Neda Mihneva also won her singles match for the Terps, 6-1, 7-5.

Dent was the last to play for the Terps. After falling in the first set, 6-4, both players ceased to finish because Maryland had already won, 5-2.

The Terrapins will play at Virginia Commonwealth tomorrow at 11. The Terps will be back at home next weekend to host Pennsylvania on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday.
