The 400 free relay team flew to a bronze medal as the Maryland Terrapins finished in eighth place in the 2006 ACC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Terps finished with 222.5 points. Virginia won their eighth straight championship with 694 points, holding off second place Florida State, which finished with 685.5.
The relay team consisted of freshman Dong Kim, senior Patrick Doyle (Norfolk, Va.), junior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.), and freshman Matt Golebiewski (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.). They swam a 2:58.83, good for an NCAA B-cut time.
Gray, who set the school record with a 44.15 in the prelims of the 100 free this morning, swam an impressive 44.38 in the final.
Doyle also participated in the 100 free, taking 13th overall thanks to a 45.28, just .08 seconds off the personal best time he swam this morning.
Junior Tony Miller (Severna Park, Md.) registered a top 10 finish in the 200 breast. His 2:02.18 earned him tenth place, and set a new personal record. It eclipses the 2:03.05 that he set this morning.
Freshman Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) and junior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 breast. Cullen swam a 2:04.43 and Shepard a 2:06.15.
Senior Erik Putkonen (Marietta, Ga.) swam a 1:50.29 in the 200 back. The time earned him 13th place overall. Senior Chris Starr's swim of 1:55.32 earned him 24th place in the event.
Sophomore Ken Golaszewski (Boulder, Colo.) swam a season-best time of 16:05.02 in the 1650 free, earning himself 15th place overall.
Senior Andrew Foran (Atascadero, Calif.) won the bonus consolation heat of the 200 fly to finish 17th overall. His time of 1:51.14 was the fastest by a Terp in the event all season. Sophomore Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) finished in 20th place overall thanks to a personal best time of 1:51.81.
