Maryland Conquers Florida State, 4-3

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Women's Tennis Team, ranked #28 in the country, won their second ACC match of the season today against #68 Florida State. Maryland slid by FSU in the doubles point while also capturing points in the first, second, and sixth singles. The match was played at The Tennis Center at College Park.

Playing first doubles was #10 Ramona But and Marianne Baker, who haven't seen action together since their loss to Virginia Commonwealth. However, today, But and Baker were victorious in their match, easily sliding by their opponents, 8-2.

Michal Amir and Jennifer Dent, who are ranked #33 in the country, played second doubles for Maryland. They also captured a win, 8-6, securing the doubles point for the Terps. Third doubles Neda Mihneva and Julia Graca also won, 8-1.

#31 But played first singles for Maryland. After an easy win in her first set, 6-2, But had to overcome a difficult challenge in the second set. In a tiebreaker, But pulled out the second point for the Terrapins, winning her second set 7-6.

Baker, who played second doubles, quickly lifted the Terps to a 3-0 lead. In two easy sets, Baker won, 6-2, 6-1.

Maryland had some troubles in the third, fourth, and fifth singles. Each of the matches went into third sets, with the Terps falling in each one. Maryland was now 3-3, with their win dependent on sixth singles player Michal Amir. In her seventh individual win of the season, Amir decided the match for Maryland, winning 6-4, 6-3.

Maryland will be off next week for spring break but will returned to action on March 25 at Georgia Tech.
