The Maryland Gymnastics team will compete in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Conference Championships at Rutgers University on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Terps need to have a great performance in order to qualify for NCAA Regionals.
Maryland is coming off a season-high team score (194.575) in last week's second-place finish at NC State. The Terps also tallied season-high scores on vault (48.825), uneven bars (48.475) and balance beam (48.45). Angie Ferg and Rachel Martinez paced the squad on vault, tying for third with a score of 9.825. Ferg added a career-best 9.8 and second-place finish on balance beam. Martinez and Rachel Colon were outstanding for the Terps on floor exercise. Martinez tallied a 9.875 for second place and Colon notched a career-best 9.85 for third place. Martinez and Colon finished 1-2 in the all-around competition. Martinez tallied a season-high 39.225 and Colon scored her second highest total of the season (39.125).
The Terps enter the meet in fifth place in the EAGL Conference. West Virginia leads the league in scoring average and is the only team that Maryland has not faced this season. The Terps have defeated every other team in the conference at least once this season (North Carolina, New Hampshire, NC State, George Washington, Pittsburgh and Rutgers).
