COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins fell to 14th-ranked Miami, 3-1, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Shipley Field. John Dischert allowed one earned run in five innings and the Maryland bullpen did its part, but the Terps (10-15, 4-8 ACC) managed just two hits on the day as they dropped the series, two games to one.

Left-hander Scott Maine (5-0) recorded the win for the Hurricanes, allowing one run on two hits in 8.0 innings to go along with six strikeouts. Chris Perez came on to face the last two Terp hitters to record his seventh save of the season.

For Maryland, Dischert gave up three runs, two of which were unearned, and yielded five hits while striking out three in his first career Atlantic Coast Conference start. Seth Overbey and Brett Cecil each tossed two innings of no-hit ball in relief, keeping the deficit at two while the offense tried to figure out Maine.

Miami wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring twice in the top of the first. A single by second baseman Jemile Weeks and back-to-back walks gave the Hurricanes the bases loaded with one away. Danny Valencia brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly to center and Miami added another when the runner on third came home after a pick off attempt by Dischert got past the first baseman to make it a 2-0 game early on.

The Terps started to chip away at the Miami lead in the bottom of the third. Nick Jowers led off with a single to left and moved around to third on consecutive sacrifice bunts by Dan Benick and Matt Maropis. After falling down in the count, 0-2, shortstop Steve Braun battled back and drove a fly ball to right field that was deep enough to score Jowers, cutting Miami's lead to 3-1. That, however, would be as close as Maryland would get, as the Terps would not get another hit the rest of the day.

Maryland is back in action on Tuesday afternoon, when the team will take on Duquesne at 3 p.m. at Shipley Field. The Terps will then play Old Dominion on Wednesday night in Norfolk, Va. before welcoming Georgia Tech to College Park for a three game series from March 31-April 2.
