COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
#33 Maryland (8-4) defeated Princeton, 4-3, on Sunday at The Tennis Center at College Park. Maryland took the doubles point and three singles to give them a close victory.
First doubles Marianne Baker and Veronika Subertova fell to their opponents, 9-7. However, in second doubles, Jennifer Dent and Michal Amir quickly turned the pace of the game around, winning their set 8-6. Maryland took the doubles point in the third doubles. Julia Graca and Neda Mihneva easily defeated their opponents, 8-2, giving Maryland a 1-0 lead.
The Terps started off with a victory in the first singles set as well. Baker captured the first set, 6-2, fell in the second, 4-6, but played well in the third, winning the set, 6-0, and giving Maryland a 2-0 lead.
Maryland also saw another victory in the third singles with Mihneva. Mihneva easily taking the match in two sets against Princeton's Christine Kansky, 6-3, 6-2.
By fifth singles, Maryland was up 3-2. Amir played for the Terps, winning her match against Princeton's Joanna Roth, 6-3, 6-4. This victory gave Maryland their eighth win of the season.
Maryland will take on two ACC matches next weekend. The Terps will host Miami on March 10 and Florida State on March 12.
