MARYLAND LOOKS TO BUILD ON ACC LEAD AT FLORIDA ST.

  • Fresh off a series victory over Duke in their first Atlantic Coast Conference action of the season, the Maryland Terrapins (6-7, 2-1 ACC) will look to maintain their grasp on sole possession of first place in the conference when they play a three-game set against Florida State in Tallahassee from March 10-12.

  • The Terps enter their series with the Seminoles having won two in a row and five of their last six. Four of those five victories have been by one run, including two extra-inning affairs (4-3 over Jacksonville in 11 innings and 9-8 over Duke in 12).

  • Florida State is one of five teams on the Terps' 2006 schedule that were ranked in the preseason Baseball America Top 25 poll. With a mark of 15-1, the `Noles currently sit at No. 8 in the latest edition of the rankings. They are ranked in the nation's top five by several other publications, including Collegiate Baseball Weekly, which has FSU as the No. 2 team in the country.

  • Wins have been tough to come by for Maryland against Florida State in the past, as the Seminoles own a 45-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Terps' last victory over FSU came on March 26, 1998 when Maryland won, 14-6, in Tallahassee.

  • Sunday's series finale will be televised regionally by Sun Sports Network. Gene Deckerhoff and Keith Jones will be doing color and play-by-play. All three games this weekend will be broadcast online by WMUC Sports at www.wmucsports.com. Josh Weisz will be in the booth calling each game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon on Sunday.

    SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES

  • Florida State has lost just once in its first 16 games to start the 2006 season and is currently riding a 12-game winning streak. The Seminoles' lone loss of the year came back on Feb. 10, a 5-2 defeat in the series opener at Auburn.

  • National Player of the Year candidate Shane Robinson is leading FSU in hitting with a .443 average in 16 games. A consensus preseason All American, the outfielder has six doubles, two triples and 10 stolen bases in as many attempts.

  • On the hill for the `Noles, Bryan Henry and Tyler Chambliss are each off to 4-0 starts. As a staff, FSU has an ERA of 2.62, which is good for third in the ACC.
