Women's Tennis Recruiting Class Ranked Sixth

April 12, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland had its women's tennis recruiting class ranked sixth in the nation recently by the website www.tennisrecruiting.net.

During the early signing period in the fall, three top players from the area signed National Letters of Intent to attend Maryland. Eleanor Peters of Washington, D.C., Elyse Steiner of Allison Park, Pa., and Maggie MacKeever of Rockville, Md., all signed to become Terrapins in the Fall of 2006.

"We are very happy and pleased with our new recruiting class," said Maryland head coach Martin Novak. "Eleanor, Elyse and Maggie are highly accomplished, skilled and competitively driven.

"We believe all three will have an immediate impact and will keep improving and help bring Maryland to a very high national level."

Maryland ranked behind Notre Dame, Princeton, Georgia Tech, Duke and Virginia in the rankings on the site. UCLA, Vanderbilt, Northwestern and Texas rounded out the top 10.

Maryland, ranked 34th in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, is in its final week of the regular season in preparation for the upcoming ACC Championships on April 20 through 23 in Cary, NC.
