COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 34 Maryland women's tennis team defeated No. 62 Virginia Tech Thursday afternoon, 6-1, extending its record to 11-10, 4-6 in the ACC. Maryland played at its home courts at the Tennis Center at College Park.

The Terps started off with a quick lead after winning the doubles point. 12th-ranked Ramona But and Marianne Baker posted their fourth win a row, beating 47th-ranked Anat Elazari and J.J. Larson, 8-2. Jennifer Dent and Michal Amir also were victorious with a quick 8-0 finish. Finally, Neda Mihneva and Julia Graca completed the sweep, defeating No. 37 Jessica Brouwer and A. James, 8-4.

Singles also proved promising for the Terps. First off the court for the Terps was Dent at third singles. She suffered the only loss of the day for Maryland, 6-1, 6-1. However, Michal Amir picked up the tempo of the match, winning her set at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-2, to give the Terps a 2-1 lead in the match.

Veronika Subertova added the third win for Maryland at the No. 4 singles. Subertova won in two sets, 6-2, 7-6. But, ranked 40th in the nation, also added a win over No. 58 Inga Beermann, 6-3, 6-4. Mihneva accounted for the Terps' fifth victory at the No. 6 pairing. After winning the first set, 6-2, Mihneva dropped, 3-6, in the second. However, she came back to win the third, 6-3, and the match.

Last to wrap up for Maryland was No. 65 Baker. Baker won her first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), but lost the second set in another tiebreaker, 6-7 (5). However, Baker proved strong in the third set, easily defeating her opponent, 6-2. Baker's victory over Virginia Tech marked her 21st singles win of the season, the most on the Terrapin squad.

Maryland will host Virginia this Saturday. This will be Maryland's last regular-season match.
