Terps Post Top Finishes in Final Meet Before ACC Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Lynn Hernandez and Kierra Foster both finished in the top-three of the women's long jump, highlighting University of Maryland performances last weekend at the Onesty/Abramson Invitational track and field meet hosted by the University of Virginia.

Hernandez placed first with a season-best, NCAA Regional and ECAC qualifying mark of 21-00.75. Foster placed third with her season-best jump of 20-11.25, which was also an NCAA Regional and ECAC qualifying mark.

Hernandez later posted a mark of 23.87 in the women's 200, earning a berth at the NCAA Regional and earning second place on the Terrapins' all-time list.

In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Chanel Williams placed second with a time of 1:01.56 and Kristina Keegan placed third, running a 1:01.80.

Each mark qualified them for the ECAC Championships next month.

Allison Carney and Shari Gorga posted a 1-2 finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Carney posted a season-best time of 11:28.71, finishing just in front of Gorga, who came in at 11:35.70.

On the men's side, Beau Fay and Sal Delhierro both finished in the top-10 of the hammer. Fay, who placed fourth, posted a mark of 175-00 and Delhierro had a throw of 150-11. Delhierro also placed fourth in the shot put (51-06.50) and Fay placed 12th in the discus (145-01) and 18th in the shot put (45-01.75). James Rolle also placed in the shot put for the Terps finishing 13th with a mark of 47-08.00.

Bria Johnson won the shot put with a mark of 47-11.75, while Jillian Anwah (6th, 44-05.50), Aysha Gregory (16th, 39-09.75) and Christina Smith (20th, 36-08.50) also placed in the event.

Johnson and Gregory also placed in the discus, with Johnson posting a fourth place finish (145-04) and Gregory finishing 11th (131-05).

In the men's 1,500 meters, Josh Davis placed eighth, running a 3:53.21. In field events, Chris Haley placed eighth in the high jump with a mark of 6-04.75. Brian Grubel tied for seventh in the pole vault posting a 15-03.00.

The Terrapins return to action this Thursday at the ACC Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.
