Maryland senior Ramona But went 2-0 in both singles and doubles last week, leading the Terrapins to a pair of wins over ranked opponents and earning the final Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Performer of the Week honor for the 2006 season.
But picked up a pair of impressive wins in the Terrapins' 6-1 win over No. 62 Virginia Tech on Thursday. In singles play, the 40th-ranked But topped No. 58 Inga Beermann at No. 1, 6-3, 6-4. Ranked 12th in doubles, But teamed with Marianne Baker to defeat No. 47 Anat Elizari and J.J. Larson at No. 1, 8-2.
In Maryland's 4-3 win over No. 25 Virginia on Saturday, the Timisoara, Romania, native picked up another win at No. 1 singles, downing Rachel DelPriore, 6-3, 6-1. But and Baker notched another big win at No. 1 doubles, as the duo dropped the 11th-ranked tandem of Lori Stern and Kristen James, 8-2.
The 34th-ranked Terrapins finished the regular season with a 12-10 overall record and a 5-6 mark in ACC play, earning the No. 8 seed for the ACC Championships. The league championship will take place at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C., and will run from Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23.
