Entering the ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C. as the No. 8 seed, the 29th-ranked Maryland Terrapins will face No. 9 NC State Thursday, April 20 at 9 a.m. If the Terps advance, they will look to face top-seeded Georgia Tech on Friday. Maryland beat NC State 5-2 in their only meeting during the regular season.
Maryland entered the season ranked 39th in the FILA rankings. Through hard work and dedication, the Terps have clinched as high as the No. 28th position.
Senior Ramona But has turned in one of the most successful seasons for the Terrapins. She has posted a 13-2 record in the singles and is ranked No. 33 in the latest FILA rankings. In doubles play, But and Marianne Baker have earned a 16-3 record and are ranked 8th in the country. But's most impressive play was this past weekend against Virginia Tech and Virginia, where she went 4-0 in singles and doubles matches en route to the ACC player-of-the-week honors.
Junior Marianne Baker has also proved essential. At No. 73, Baker ended the regular season with a 14-8 record in singles matches and 17-6 in doubles. Baker was ranked as high as 65th on April 4 and won both her singles and doubles matches this past weekend.
Maryland's wrapped up on a high note winning its last two ACC matches against Virginia Tech and Virginia. The Terps enter the ACC Tournament 12-10, including a 5-6 mark in the ACC.
