NEW LONDON, N.C. - The University of Maryland fired a 4-under par 284 to finish in a tie for third after the first round of the ACC Men's Golf Championship Friday in New London, N.C. Senior John Eades also tied for third after pacing the Terps with a 4-under 68 on the par-72, 7,100-yard course at the Old North State Golf Club.

Georgia Tech leads the tournament with a 12-under-par, 276, while is two shots back after shooting a 10-under 278. Maryland is joined in third by North Carolina State at 284, just a shot ahead of Clemson (285) and Florida State (285). Duke (287), Virginia Tech (291), Wake Forest (292), Virginia (293) and Boston College (314) round out the 11-team field, respectively.

Junior Tully Coyle fired a 1-under-par 71 to finish the first round tied for 12th, while junior Matt Schall shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 21st. Junior Blaine Peffley is 1-over and is tied for 28th, while sophomore Tyler Witman shot a 74.

Second-round action begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the final round slated for Sunday.
